Dry Fly Time on the Bulkley
Posted on Sep 02/2013
After a weekend of sunshine the river is in excellent shape. Level is still lowish but the water is clear. This is the perfect time of the year to cast dry flies for Steelhead. Not large numbers of Steelhead in the river but people are catching them. Fish riffles and tailouts with a larger searching pattern dry fly or skater over tailouts. Weather looks good for the rest of the week so try and get out and enjoy this special time of the year. It wont be long before the temperature starts dropping and we are back to sink tips. If you usually only fish a skagit line consider trying a rage or a scandi setup for dry flies. You will strip less line and have a better presentation.
Spending the last 2 days on the river in a course I saw lots of ugly looking spawned out pinks in the river. This can still be a fun fishery especially for younger people. Under the bridge in Telkwa is always a popular spot for kids.
Still Coho in the river as well, people are reporting good success on spoons and blue foxes.
get out & play today!!
