June 16 Bulkley River Opening
Posted on Jun 09/2013
River Fishing
With any co-operation from the weather the Bulkley will be in the best shape for opening day in a long time. River levels are quite low for this time of the year (which is still too high to fish though) and most of the snow from the mountains is already down. Now if this rain would just hold up for a few days things might actually clear up enough to make the river fishable. Skeena is high and dirty with all the rain. There are opportunities to fish on the Skeena by targeting the clear water where tributaries empty into the main current. Reports are the Kalum and the Kitimat are fishing well and the springs are moving through.
Lake Fishing
Lake fishing is getting better. Chironomids are working really well also micro leaches etc. Rainbow alley is hit and miss hopefully the weather will improve soon.
Sockeye Closure
Please be aware that until further notice there is a zero retention on Sockeye Salmon for Babine and Nilkitwa Lakes, Mainstem of the Skeena from the mouth upstream to above the confluence with the Babine River, The Babine River, Pinkut Creek downstream of boundary signs, and Fulton River. This does not necessarily mean there will be no Sockeye season this year. The closure will depend on return numbers from the test fishery and other conditions. Please this Fisheries and Oceans notice for full details on the Soceye closure
get out & play today!!
